Negative caching of DNS requests broken?

I'm using Squid 2.3.devel2 inside a firewall of a company which has
implemented a split DNS implementation. This means that inside the
firewall there are internal root nameservers which only know
company.com.

The squid configuration I use has one parent proxy. I noticed that for
each URL outside company.com a DNS request is sent to the internal name
servers. These nameservers give an authoritative 'NXDOMAIN' reply but
that doesn't seem to get negatively cached. I checked with Squid
2.2.stable4 and it seems to have the same behavior.

Should we fix this?
