cd /usr/local/squid/cache
find . -type f -printf "%s\n" | awk 'BEGIN {totalsize=0;count=0} {totalsize = totalsize+$1;count++} END {print "Average size is " totalsize/count}'

The power (and simplicity hahahahaha) of awk :)
