Hi !

I was trying to update our squid from 2.0.Patch2 to 2.2.STABLE4 and got the
following problems:

1999/08/04 11:17:30| aio_queue_request: WARNING - Running out of I/O theads
1999/08/04 11:17:30| aio_queue_request: Perhaps you should increase NUMTHREADS
1999/08/04 11:17:30| aio_queue_request: Or install more disks to share the load
1999/08/04 11:17:39| aio_queue_request: Async request queue growing uncontrollab
ly!
1999/08/04 11:17:39| aio_queue_request: Possible infinite loop somewhere in squi
d. Restarting...
1999/08/04 11:17:52| Starting Squid Cache version 2.2.STABLE4 for sparc-sun-sola
ris2.6...

At first I tried to increase the number of I/O-threads. But then I only got
the last 3 lines (without the warning). After turning off async handling
(What is it good for ? Is the server start faster ?) it worked but after
a while I got this:

1999/08/04 16:49:51| Took 1031 seconds ( 0.0 objects/sec).
1999/08/04 16:49:51| Beginning Validation Procedure
1999/08/04 16:49:51| assertion failed: comm.c:397: "fd >= 0"
1999/08/04 16:50:01| Starting Squid Cache version 2.2.STABLE4 for sparc-sun-sola
ris2.6...

Before this there has been some messages like these:

1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[70].rwstate != NULL
1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[71].rwstate != NULL
1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[72].rwstate != NULL
1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[73].rwstate != NULL
1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[74].rwstate != NULL
1999/08/04 16:49:50| comm_write: fd_table[75].rwstate != NULL

What does this mean and what to do now ?

The machine is a Sun UltraSparc (2 processors) with ATM & Ethernet
card, Solaris 2.6, 16384 filedescriptors activated in /etc/system
and the following configuration for compiling:

HTTP_PORT=8080 CFLAGS="-O -mcpu=ultrasparc" ./configure --exec-prefix=/usr/local
/squid/2.2.S4 --enable-err-language=German --enable-cache-digests --enable-cache
mgr-hostname --with-dlmalloc

Can anyone help me ?

Thanx,
        Udo
