The squid process itslef is single threaded. It sits in a polling loop. It
cannot use more than one cpu. The ancillary processes for diskio,
authentication, ... can of course make use of extra cpus but probably
won't use anywhere near the amount of cpu that squid does. I believe most
people find a single cpu sufficient and little benefit gained from extra
cpus.
